Points leader Dan Thackeray is refusing to get carried away about his title prospects at Knockhill this weekend.
Thackeray will go into the season’s penultimate rounds leading both the Class B and Overall championship standings and could provisionally clinch both there (CLICK HERE for separate article).
But he says it would be foolhardy to let thinking about the titles adjust his approach.
“It’s too early to think about trying to drive strategically,” said Thackeray.
“I’ve lost a title before in the last race with a lap to go so I think it’s best to just drive on my instinct.
“Maybe after Race 1 things will start to be a bit clearer but I don’t intend on changing how I’d normally drive.”
Thackeray also pointed to other obstacles that could yet decide whether the title race goes on to Snetterton’s final rounds in mid-October.
Currently he leads Motion Motorsport team-mate Ryan Cunningham at the top of both the Class B and Overall tables. Class A leaders Will Self, Philip Wright and Liam Collins could also yet pip him to the Overall crown.
“I’ve raced before at Knockhill and the lap times can be a lot closer than at most circuits because it’s so short, a bit like the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch.
“If it’s wet – not unknown at Knockhill! – the quicker Class B cars could be in with Class A cars which adds another unknown.
“They’ll have an advantage out of the hairpin up the hill still in the wet, but not really anywhere else.
“Plus there’s the Race 2 reversed grid to think about and the last two of those haven’t been so good for me.”
