Knockhill’s penultimate rounds of the season this Saturday could decide a number of titles, even with the championship’s two-dropped-scores points system. Here’s how…

The Simple Maths
If a driver leaves Knockhill with a lead of more than 37 points in their class, they’re champion — because that’s the maximum available from the final two rounds at Snetterton three weeks later.

The Reality
For this to happen, their dropped scores must also be factored in. For example, Dan Thackeray is closing in on both the Class B and overall titles. His only Class B challenger is Motion Motorsport team-mate Ryan Cunningham.

• Raw scores: Thackeray 199, Cunningham 175 (gap 24).
• After dropped scores: Thackeray currently discards a 0 and 13, Cunningham a 10 and 11 — the lead grows to 32.

The Class A Factor
That same duel also defines the Overall Championship standings in which the Class A leaders could still deny Thackeray the overall crown:
• Will Self 152 (no scores left to drop)
• Philip Wright 133 (drops 6)
• Liam Collins 122 (no scores left to drop)

After adjustments, the gaps to Thackeray stand at 34 for Self, 59 for Wright, and 64 for Collins — with 73 points still on the table across Knockhill and Snetterton.

Note: no scores can be dropped from the Snetterton finale, which could yet play a part.

Thackeray’s Record
With nine wins out of 12 in Class B, Thackeray is a strong favourite — but Knockhill is new ground for many drivers, and Fife’s unpredictable weather could yet shake things up.

Certainly Thackeray himself is not counting any chickens – CLICK HERE for separate story.

Class Battles Still Alive
• Class A: Five drivers remain in contention — Self, Wright, Collins, Tommy Knight and Kevin Talbot. Knight needs to drop just 2 points, while Talbot has already absorbed two zeros.
• Class B: Thackeray vs Cunningham.
• Class C: Matt Rowling leads Callum Houchen by 24 points, reduced to 22 after dropped scores.

With fewer points on offer in the small field, Rowling could be virtually safe if he maintains a 13-point cushion after Knockhill. Houchen’s best hope is for extra entrants at Snetterton to dilute Rowling’s haul.
