Will Self extended his Class A championship lead with two more victories at Oulton Park, where he also set a new lap record in his Civic EG.

The Cheshire circuit double made it four wins in a row for Self, giving him a 10-point lead over nearest rival Philip Wright heading into the next rounds at Brands Hatch (7 Sept).

Despite the results, Self faced stiff competition throughout the weekend. Liam Collins stunned in qualifying with a record-breaking lap to take pole in his Integra DC2, ahead of Self. Although Collins lost out at the start of Race 1, he shadowed the leader to the flag to underline his pace.

Tommy Knight also remained in contention in his improved Civic EK until a late fuel scare saw him limp home just 0.173s ahead of James Kiff’s fast-closing Integra DC2.

Race 2’s reversed grid put Self seventh at the start, but a blistering opening lap propelled him into the lead, briefly held by Fraser McNeill in his recently rebuilt Civic EG.

Knight quickly climbed to second and applied pressure throughout, but a 10-second penalty for a start infringement relegated him to fourth.

That handed second place to a delighted Kiff, who celebrated his first-ever podium finish, while Wright salvaged third for valuable championship points.

Collins could manage only sixth after engine troubles, though the result lifted him to third in the standings ahead of Kevin Talbot.

Talbot’s weekend unravelled with a Race 1 retirement following contact between his Integra DC5 and Bob Barron’s Civic EG, and then only 10th place in Race 2.
