New Class A leader Will Self expects his Civic EG to be at its strongest yet at Oulton Park.
The Warminster racer could give himself an early 28th birthday present if he repeats his two wins from Snetterton last time out.
There he qualified on pole position an astonishing 1.5 seconds before going on to win both races.
Notably, his EG is fitted with a K24 engine that cost him just £600 to buy – taken from a 110,000-mile Honda Accord road car.
The only modifications he’s made to it include fitting a 50-degree VTC gear and baffled sump (for an additional £400).
Self’s Snetterton results propelled him back into the lead of Class A – a position he held briefly at Cadwell Park in April after winning the opening round at the Lincolnshire circuit.
His lead over closest rival Philip Wright is just one point going into Oulton’s bank holiday Monday double-header.
“I think Oulton will suit my car more than Snetterton,” said Self.
“I’ve managed a bit of testing there and the circuit’s mix of low to full-commitment sections seem to suit the car and my style of driving.”
Self is wary however that Oulton’s full International circuit configuration can be tough on cars. Last year both Liam Collins and then Dan Brown both dramatically retired from the lead.
“Splitters, driveshafts… something to bear in mind – it’ll be important to take the kerbs at certain sections at just the right point,” added Self.
“If the car is reliable I’m comfortable I can continue at the front and look forward to more wins.”
