After celebrating a breakthrough maiden podium result, Bob Barron is now targeting a first race win the Racing Hondas Championship.

The Scotsman took a third-place finish last time out at Snetterton and is hoping forthcoming developments on his Civic EG will make the crucial difference.

“I’ve actually not been happy with the car but we’ve some big changes coming for the next rounds at Oulton Park,” he said.

“It’s new rear suspension coming from Japan – so far the car has been too ‘on the nose’ so quite tail happy.

“But after that third place I know the car has potential so I’m feeling excited and confident.”

Barron has proved a sensation in his first season of car racing – he came close to a win on his debut in the season’s opening rounds at Cadwell Park and was in the hunt for victory again at Brands Hatch in May.

His spectacular car control and driving style has also stood out.

“I’ve got a few customers who’ve been telling me I’m pretty exciting to watch!” adds Barron, who specialises in performance Japanese road car builds from his business Barron Automotive north of Aberdeen.

He and ‘Kilted Kswaps’ team-mate Fraser McNeill, based in Glasgow, have to travel huge distances to compete in Racing Hondas due to their location.

That’s along with Bob’s and Fraser’s respective partners Nikki and Mollie, and mechanics Steven and Mike (the latter is Bob’s brother).

“Brands Hatch for me is 600 miles – one way!” quips Barron.

“We love the whole buzz of the Racing Hondas Championship – I’ve honestly had some of the best weekends of my life.

“The road trips, meeting new folk, the paddock banter and everyone happy to help one another… we’re all buzzing from it.”

Barron and McNeill know that their home circuit of Knockhill is coming up in late September.

Barron adds: “All the English circuits have been totally new to me this year.

“But Knockhill I do know very well. By then hopefully we’ll have got a real handle on the new suspension. I want to be going for the win there.”
