• First three builds to receive free full entries for 2026 season
• S2000R aimed at RWD racing enthusiasts
• Estimated costs £16,000 ready to race (self-build)
The Racing Hondas Championship has revealed its striking new S2000R race car – a low and wide roadster designed to ignite the passion of rear-wheel-drive racing enthusiasts.
Named S2000R, with 240bhp and fitted with a substantial rear wing and a frontal aero splitter, the car takes the classic Honda S2000 to thrilling new dimensions.
The championship’s prototype S2000R will receive a shakedown at Donington Park this Wednesday (20 August), driven by Luke Sedzikowski, before making its live debut at the Oulton Park bank holiday Racing Hondas Championship round on Monday 25 August.
The S2000R will initially run in Class B under the existing power-to-weight regulations (195 bhp/ton). For 2026, it will graduate to its very own S2000 Cup class, complete with a dedicated points table to crown its own Champion.
Tegiwa has been tasked with build kits and components, allowing owners to construct their own S2000Rs and even enter them in the final rounds of this season’s championship.
Total costs to go from road car to race-ready S2000 are estimated at around £16,000 based on £7,500 for a donor car plus a similar amount for Tegiwa’s discounted parts.
With some 3,500 S2000s still on UK roads, the pool of potential racers is promising and many parts which will be removed from builds retain high resale price to further reduce the build cost of each car.
All Racing Hondas events are livestreamed and often coincide with popular tuning and modified car shows that draw trackside audiences of up to 10,000 spectators via the Club Time Attack package,
The first three S2000R builds will each earn free full-season entries for 2026, courtesy of Japanese performance parts specialist Tegiwa.
Carl McKellar, Championship Coordinator, enthused:
“We put together the concept of S2000R to bring something unexpected and fresh into our already bustling Championship. The S2000R was developed for rear-wheel-drive enthusiasts looking for a cost-effective season of club racing in 2026.
“Honda’s S2000 enjoys iconic status so giving it a fresh lease of life in Racing Hondas with this competition version was only fitting and provides the platform with a permanent home.
“Following the S2000R debut, we will begin to lock down the regulation spec for 2026 which may also include the option to replace the car’s original F20C engine with a K20 (from the Civic) which is a cheaper and more developed club racing engine.
“The car has been specified to maximise performance and keep costs low. We are delighted with its final development spec which was completed on our behalf by Dan’s Garage and Tegiwa.com and look forward to honing it further on track.”
Club Time Attack Chairman Andy Barnes commented:
‘’We are committed to the Racing Hondas Championship and continue to invest in it as demonstrated with our new S2000R development car. The S2000R is designed to offer a simple yet very fast, reliable open top racing car alternative to other RWD or open top cars out there, such as the MX5 or Caterhams and the like.
“Whilst we envisage existing Honda racers will consider the S2000R, we welcome new teams and drivers looking for a fresh a challenge in a great car on the best club package in the UK bar none.
“We have launched the S2000R in good time to allow teams to review a real car in person and make an informed decision ready for next season.”
