Will Self surged into the Racing Hondas Class A points lead with two convincing wins at Snetterton.

Self, winner of the season’s opening round at Cadwell Park back in April, struck fear into the opposition with a qualifying lap time that was more than 1.5 second faster than anyone else.

Quickly into his stride, he was able to rapidly draw clear of the pack to win Race 1 by more than two seconds aboard his Civic EG.

Philip Wright (Civic EP3) finished second to take over the Class A lead as Kevin Talbot, who’d started thew day top of the points, retired on the final lap with a steering issue on his Integra DC5.

This left Bob Barron (Civic EG) to break his podium duck as clung on to take third just ahead of Liam Collins (Integra DC2), Dave Buky (Civic EG), James Kiff (Integra DC2) and Tommy Knight (Civic EK).

Knight had spun on the opening lap but a red flag stoppage – to enable marshals to retrieve a stranded car – enabled him to get back in the fight and score valuable points.

Wright led much of Race 2 and held on stubbornly against Self for whom persistence eventually paid off entering the Wilson hairpin on lap 6.

This is how they stayed with Self finishing 1.3s clear of Wright at the chequered flag – the effective six-point swing between them hoisting Self clear of Wright at the top of the A standings by a single point.

Making a one-off return, reigning A Champion Dan Brown came through to finish third with the fastest lap time on the final lap. He’d set the fastest lap in Race 1, too, and was closing rapidly on Self before retiring with a broken driveshaft on his Civic EG.

Completing the leading runners in Race 2, Talbot took fourth ahead of Barron and Knight after some more nail-biting action, whilst James Allen was seventh in his unique Civic EJ’s strongest performance to date. Having led most of the opening lap, though, Collins was a late retirement with broken suspension on his car.
