2024 Racing Hondas Class A Champion Dan Brown plans to make a one-off comeback outing in the championship at Snetterton this weekend.
The Warminster racer will use the event to give his Civic Bali a shakedown before ferrying it overseas for track days around Germany’s Nurburgring and Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuits.
“The car’s undergone a major restoration since last season,” explained Brown.
“I had it sand-blasted back to a bare shell, most of the rear end has been cut off and replaced with new panels, the engine’s been re-mapped and it’s undergone a re-spray and is now black.
“I’ve also found a bit of weight during the fabrication process and made some aero tweaks plus fitted a new exhaust system which I’ve design – it’s almost identical to Will Self’s EG.”
Brown is hopeful of mixing it towards the sharp end but acknowledges this year’s Class A fight is fierce towards the front.
“Last year it was just me and Liam (Collins) out front. Now you’ve got Liam plus Kevin Talbot, Philip Wright, Will (Self) and a few others knocking on the door.
“From the outside looking in it has become more competitive which is great for those involved and those watching at tracks and on the live streaming.”
And he joked: “I’ve had Kevin and Will both ask if I can try and help them by taking points off their rivals so I’ve told them it depends who’s going to buy me most beers!”
Meanwhile, also making a return to the grid for Snetterton’s rounds is Brown’s close pal and Garage 24 Motorsport ‘team-mate’ James Allen in his unique Civic EJ (above).
The rare booted Honda model has undergone modifications to its driveshafts since a troubled debut appearance in Cadwell Park’s opening rounds.
