Philip Wright is playing down his chances of victory at his home circuit of Snetterton (Sun 27 July).
The Kings Lynn driver has won twice in the last two events to become Kevin Talbot’s closest challenger in the championship’s premier class, Class A for ‘silhouette’ Hondas.
He also won 2024’s season finale at Snetterton but isn’t so sure of his chances this time around.
“I’m sure we’ll be top five or six but my car, the Civic EP3, won’t like the twisty infield section of the 300 lay-out as much as some of the other models.
“I like to think we’ll be in with a chance of some strong results still but the 300 circuit should favour the lighter cars in terms of overall lap times.”
Wright says his EP3 is a different beast compared to 2024.
“We saved about 35kgs by fitting fibre glass doors and wings.
“The front end has been lowered as well to suit the Yokohama AO52s we all now have to run which have also meant changes to the suspensions set-up.
“In fact every set-up we ran in 2024 has needed a drastic change for 2025 and it’s led to a few arguments between me and my dad, Trevor, as we’ve not known how competitive we would be going into events.”
Wright won the championship’s most recent round on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit after a robust overtake on chief rival Talbot’s Integra.
The 37-year-old explained: “I’d been three seconds up the road when the race got red flagged so had to start from scratch again when it re-started. Kevin got ahead so it was good to fight back and take the win in the end.
“A bonus was winning for the first time on Father’s Day for Dad – it’s been a long time coming as he’s always been there since I started karting aged eight!
“Last year we had a bit of a shocker until towards the end of the season – this year we’re putting in as much preparation and it’s been much more enjoyable.
“And has meant a lot less arguments between me and Dad!”
