Kevin Talbot took his third outright win of the season and Philip Wright his second in two nail-biting Racing Hondas races on Brands Hatch’s classic Indy circuit. The races, rounds 5 and 6 of the 2025 season, were run at a searing pace with some spectacular overtaking moves ultimately deciding their outcomes – much to the appreciation of a huge trackside crowd.

Talbot’s victory in Race 1 came courtesy of a bold move that took him past Liam Collins into the lead at the opening corner, Paddock Hill Bend, in which their Integras brushed door mirrors.

Collins, who’d lowered his own 2024 qualifying lap record to take pole position, then spent the majority of the 15-minute race looking for a way past Talbot but to no avail. On several occasions their cars traded paint having been up alongside one another with Talbot always able to just stay ahead.

Just 0.147 of a second separated them at the line with Tommy Knight’s Civic EK – an ever-present threat during the race – and Wright’s Civic EP3 following close behind in third and fourth.

Dave Buky’s improving Civic EK was fifth ahead of ahead of Bob Barron’s Civic EG which was carrying the wounds of a pre-event testing accident. A fine seventh on his debut was James Kiff (Integra DC2) but regular front-runner Will Self, who’d started second on the grid, was down in P11 as he struggled with fuel-feed issue on his Civic EG.

Race 2 produced an even more intense battle at the front with five different lead changes for the fans to savour…

Having been drawn on pole position, Kiff did well to hold the lead early on before Barron and Wright (together in one move) and then Talbot and Knight each moved by on successive laps with moves into Paddock.

Barron’s lead lasted several laps before he was out-dragged by Wright along Cooper Straight. Worse was to follow for Barron as, under pressure from Talbot, his EG span backwards into retirement at Paddock and, with the car stranded in a dangerous position, the race was briefly stopped by red flag to enable marshals to retrieve it.

At the re-start, Talbot pulled off an audacious round-the-outside move on Wright before they and Self – who’d worked his way through from P11 on the grid – became embroiled in a ferocious battle for the win.

Eventually it went the way of Wright after he and Talbot tangled entering Druids Bend. Talbot’s Integra spectacularly went up on two wheels briefly as it bounced wide, this allowing Self to also pass him into second place before the race was completed behind the safety car following an incident further down the field.

Wright’s win, his second in as many events, has moved past Self into second place in the Class A standings although Talbot continues to lead the way, now by 14 points.

A fourth place result for Collins in Race 2 has kept him firmly in the title hunt – he is next up behind Self, 23 points adrift of leader Talbot with a maximum of 37 available from each event.

Kiff completed his strong Racing Hondas debut with a fine fifth place ahead of James Alford (Civic EK9) in sixth on his home circuit.

The two drivers to really miss out at the re-start were Knight and Buky who had been up near the front prior to the stoppage. Knight was ordered to start from the pit lane after mechanics repaired his car’s exhaust on its third-placed grid slot whilst under red flag/parc ferme rules. Buky, starting from fifth, stalled his car and got away last.
