Dan Thackeray has taken an early outright points lead in the Racing Hondas Championship thanks to two commanding victories in Class B at Cadwell Park.
Thackeray achieved the maximum score possible across the season’s opening two rounds with a pair of wins plus full bonus points for qualifying on pole position and setting the fastest lap in class in both races.
Hi nearest challenger leaving Cadwell is Motion Motorsport team-mate and reigning outright Champion Ryan Cunningham whose day at the Lincolnshire circuit suffered an early setback with a crash in the morning warm-up caused by a suspension breakage on his car.
Two second places in his patched-up Civic EP3 have kept him firmly in touch, however, and in Race 2 he was within a second of Thackeray at the line.
“I was getting held up by one of the Class A cars and could see Ryan closing in my mirrors – that gave me the hurry up!” said Thackeray.
“I also nearly threw it away on lap one of Race 1 when I went off the track exiting the Gooseneck but got away with it. But two wins are a great way to get things started.”
Taking a third apiece in class at Cadwell were Ben Sharpe Racing’s Sam Linssner and Kinetic Motorsport’s Sammy Mileham who led the Class B runners for much of Race 2 before being caught by Thackeray and Cunningham.
One had to feel for Onna Motorsport’s James Kembrey, though. Fourth in Race 1, he was on for a potential podium result in Race 2 until a suspension failure pitched his car into the barriers exiting the Mountain.
In Class C, newcomer Matt Rowling emerged with the points lead after two wins in his EP3 after main rival Callum Houchen’s Civic FN2 slowed in Race 1 with clutch problems which prevented him starting Race 2.
